Our Approach

The Sitar Music Society is a registered charity based in the UK. Its aims are to advance the education of the general public in the history, theory and performance of Indian Classical Music and Dance in general, and the Sitar in particular.

Since 2015, we have been creating opportunities for teaching, mentoring, and training to develop excellence. Under the continuing guidance of Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE, we particularly wish to promote the growing numbers of talented UK-based artistes who are drawing on the long heritage of Indian classical arts and creating new repertoires.

The Society is also working to develop a more diverse audience base. Our plans include developing educational materials for the wider appreciation of Indian Classical Music and establishing partnerships with local and regional organisations.

Underlying all our efforts is the desire to draw on the long and distinguished heritage of Indian Classical Music, to assimilate its excellence, and to develop its relevance for today’s world.

Our Management Board comprises Dharambir Singh MBE (Chairman), Atul Patel MBE (Treasurer) and Anitaben Mistry. We are also grateful for the generosity of donors and benefactors who give us financial support, and the many volunteers who freely give of their time and expertise.

We are particularly grateful to Shri Basanti Chattarjee of Mrittika Arts for her recent kind and generous donation.
